It's Just a Hiccup with Tawny Rachelle | Episode 043
Thursday May 23, 2019
Thursday May 23, 2019
Universe, what’s good?! Today, we are featuring one of the biggest fans of The CanSurvivor Network: Ms. Tawny Rachelle! Tawny is a stage two breast cancer survivor, and her story epitomizes divine timing. While her doctors were unable to find any indications of breast cancer after her yearly woman's exam (and gave her an "all clear"), less than one month later she would discover she did indeed have stage two breast cancer. You're not going to want to miss her story!
If you are considering whether or not to reconstruct after a mastectomy, this is an excellent interview to listen to, as Tawny instinctively knew she wanted to go flat. Tune in as we discuss her treatment, how her life has changed since her diagnosis, and our other favorite topic: Music! She was also recently published in Wildfire magazine as well.
Tawny is a stylist in the Austin area, so naturally, we had to talk hair. If you would like to purchase the product we discussed, you can check it out here. Tawny can be found on Instagram and Yelp! Tawny is also raising money for costs of surgery. You can donate to her campaign here.
We will be sending out a June newsletter, so don't forget to sign up for updates! The newsletter will also contain information about the upcoming shop. If you would like to donate to the cause, you can click here.

Life Interrupted with Paula Mozen | Episode 042
Thursday May 16, 2019
Thursday May 16, 2019
Universe, what’s good?! We are continuing Mastectomy May with the marvelous Paula Mozen, a breast cancer survivor and filmmaker of Life Interrupted. This is Paula's passion project that shows the reality of a breast cancer diagnosis from three perspectives.
Surprisingly, Paula started this project with the goal of chronicling two stories. Tune in as we talk about the process of documenting reality from her perspective. Find purpose in pain is a central theme of the show and Paula's story highlights her perseverance to keep going in the face of adversity. The film is a testament to the difficulties and "expectation hangovers" that encompass a breast cancer diagnosis (or two!).
If you would like to host a screening of Life Interrupted in your city, you can reach out to Paula through her website, Facebook page, or Instagram. She does travel through the continental US!
We will be sending out a June newsletter, so don't forget to sign up for updates! The newsletter will also contain information about the upcoming shop. If you would like to donate to the cause, you can click here.

Universe, what’s good?! We are kicking off Mastectomy May with the marvelous Tara Dunsmore-Williamson, a breast cancer survivor and owner of Pink Ink Tattoo out of Raleigh, North Carolina. Tara is certified in 3D nipple tattooing and scar camouflage.
As a nurse, she was seemingly prepared for what breast cancer would bring. She had taken care of patients and was prepared for the drugs and surgeries. Little did she know that she'd find purpose through pain at the very end of her reconstruction process. Tune in as she describes the moment she knew she had to become a tattoo artist.
If you would like to work with Tara, you can contact her through her website, Facebook page, or Instagram. She does travel outside of Raleigh and uses specialty ink for breast cancer patients, survivors, and thrivers!

Universe, what’s good?! Today’s guest is Angela Baker, founder and CEO of Angel in Disguise! Affectionately known as "Jersi" by those that adore her, Angela is a stage four thriver who has been advocating for over ten years. Initially diagnosed at stage zero, Angela felt hopeful about her prognosis, opting for a mastectomy with five years of Tamoxifen. #YSCSummit19 Reflections | Episode 037
Wednesday Mar 27, 2019
Wednesday Mar 27, 2019
Universe, what’s good?! In today's episode, I discuss the Young Survival Coalition's yearly summit. This year, women from around the world came together in Austin, Texas to feel a little less alone in this world, learning how to manage this beast known as breast cancer. It was nothing short of amazing!
Tune in as I discuss my experiences, who I met, and a few takeaways from the weekend. While we planned on recording interviews on site, Joe arrived sicker than a dog, and spent the weekend cooped up in his room. Luckily, he's now feeling better.

Collateral Damage with Tina Conrad | Episode 036
Wednesday Mar 06, 2019
Wednesday Mar 06, 2019
Universe, what’s good?! Today’s guest is “DJ Breast Cancer,” Tina Conrad! A fellow podcaster, Tina delves into her motivation for starting a breast cancer podcast. A stage three survivor, Tina was acquainted with the beast through her mother’s diagnosis. While they did not test positive for the BRCA mutation, they have both become advocates for a cure.
Tina tells us about her diagnosis: the good, the bad and the ugly. One little-discussed aspect of survivorship is collateral damage, and Tina is no stranger to it. Dedicating her show to Pink Sister Sandy Clausen, Tina aims to give listeners the lowdown on what true survivorship looks like.
Locally, we recently lost a friend to stage four breast cancer, so this episode is dedicated to her memory. Thank you, Sharon Reisner, for your friendship, your support, and your light.
We will be having a giveaway for Toledo-area cancer survivors on March 27th. Special shoutout to Shay Sharpe’s Pink Wishes for the inspiration! Tune in for more details

Dating After a Mastectomy with Kristen Carbone | Episode 034
Sunday Feb 24, 2019
Sunday Feb 24, 2019
Universe, what’s good?! Today’s guest is Kristen Carbone of Brilliantly, an organization dedicated to post-mastectomy care.
Thanks to everyone who made the Fearless in Fuchsia Luncheon in Toledo a success! It was such an honor to represent Salvatore Capelli and Sofi Stella as a survivor model. When the numbers come in, we will let you know how much The Victory Center was able to raise for cancer patients. It was an incredibly magical day. Apologies for getting this interview out a week late. Thank you Kristen for showing up and being flexible!
Kristen discusses her unique experience as a Previvor without the BRCA mutation, as well as her motivation behind starting Brilliantly. We are all one diagnosis away from a completely different life, and Kristen found this out after being a Museum Curator before starting Brilliantly.
While discussing the topic of dating, the conversation veers towards what is necessary to date in a healthy manner. It is easy to want to fast-forward to dating after a mastectomy to grab onto some kind of normalcy that disappears after undergoing such an invasive surgery. Not only is Kristen incredibly wise, bringing great tips for dating to the table, she’s also bright as a penny.
Tune in as we discuss her invention that is launching in September 2019. If you would like to contact Kristen, you can do so on Instagram, Facebook, and her website.

The podcast is now on YouTube, so please subscribe there as well!
Special thanks to Joe and Dilla's Delights for making a girl feel special. Elsie, you're amazing! It has been a magical birthday.
I was recently featured on The Art of Getting Your Sh*t Together podcast, discussing my cancer journey. Ch-ch-check it out!
The Young Survival Coalition's yearly summit is from March 8th-10th, and I will be accompanying the University of Michigan as a Patient Advisor. Joe will also be attending as a co-survivor. Please let us know in the comments if you're making it to Austin! If you are a stage 0-3 breast cancer patient within the last five years, ages 18-45, English-speaking, and not undergoing ovarian suppression, please contact MiHealthMiChoice@umich.edu as they want to hear from you! For your time and effort, they are offering a $25 cash reward. Don't miss out!
The Fearless in Fuschia luncheon event is going down on February 15, 2019 at the Hilton Garden Inn in Perrysburg, Ohio. This event benefits The Victory Center to offer free programs and services to cancer survivors. Hope to see you there!
While many are shocked that I was 29 when I was diagnosed, imagine being 23. In this episode, I interview Chris Thompson, Petty Officer 3rd Class in the US Navy. You will hear about his story, how he found out about his diagnosis, and how support helped him.
