Managing Scanxiety | Episode 032
Wednesday Jan 09, 2019
Wednesday Jan 09, 2019
Universe, what’s good?! Welcome to the first episode 0f 2019! What do you think about the potential name change? Please sound off in the comments! :)
The podcast is now on YouTube, so please subscribe there as well!
In this solo episode, I talk about a recent cancer scare that occurred last month. Knowing the statistics, an Oncologist appointment was booked and he recommended an ultrasound. If you have found yourself in this situation, you know how scary that is. Statistics haven't exactly been on my side, so facing a recurrence crosses my mind every day.
Since nobody should feel this kind of terror, this episode is focused on managing feelings of "scanxiety," which is the anxiety brought on by testing involved with cancer treatment and diagnosis. Tune in as I break down five ways to manage this.
If you are a stage 0-3 breast cancer patient within the last five years, ages 18-45, English-speaking, and not undergoing ovarian suppression, please contact MiHealthMiChoice@umich.edu as they want to hear from you! For your time and effort, they are offering a $25 cash reward. Don't miss out!
If you would like to support the podcast, please rate, comment and share! Is it time to get your shit together? January 30th we will have the co-host of The Art of Getting Your Sh*t Together Jena Gribble!

Financial Navigation with Aimee Hoch | Episode 031
Thursday Dec 13, 2018
Thursday Dec 13, 2018
Universe, what’s good?! Today’s guest is Aimee Hoch, MSW of Grand View Health located in Sellersville, Pennsylvania! Aimee is an Oncology Financial Navigator who has been serving in social work for over 14 years. As a non-survivor, she is working each day with patients as they attempt to determine their most affordable and feasible treatment options. Naturally, this conversation veered into a discussion about practical self-care methods anyone can utilize, as stress can be a great deterrent in achieving goals!
Aimee serves patients early in their diagnoses, which is a fantastic benefit because many decisions have to be made quickly, and having a level-headed, experienced individual in the mix can ease many anxieties involved. If you are listening, please pass on the message that resources are available to newly diagnosed breast cancer patients, and cancer patients alike!
If you are also looking to step up your self-care game, Aimee was recently interviewed in U Magazine discussing her methods. Between being a mother, Entrepreneur, and full-time Navigator, Aimee works diligently to help others. You can read more on her experience here. You can reach Aimee through Facebook, Instagram, or LinkedIn.
We are now on YouTube! Aimee dazzles as an on-screen guest, and her smile lights up the room! Thanks, Joe for your hard work with the video production. If you would like to support the podcast, please rate, comment and share!

HerStoryHerWay.com with Kaitlin Christine | Episode 030
Friday Dec 07, 2018
Friday Dec 07, 2018
Universe, what’s good?! Today’s guest is Kaitlin Christine of HerStoryHerWay.com, a wellness and advocacy organization. Kaitlin discusses her experience as a Previvor turned Survivor, as well as her motivation behind starting HerStory. You may want to have tissues handy, because Kaitlin bravely discusses her experience as her mother’s caretaker as her mother battled Metastatic Breast Cancer, only to find out she was also headed towards the same diagnosis.
Our conversation was both poignant and informative as we discussed Kaitlin’s experiences with her medical team, how she had to take matters into her own hands, and the way her career was impacted as a result. As an advocate, Kaitlin worked for global organizations and is extremely knowledgeable. You can read more on her experience here. You can reach Kaitlin through Email, Instagram, or Twitter.
Ladies, the next time you receive a letter stating you have dense breasts, please thank Dr. Nancy Cappello for her advocacy work. As an individual with dense breast tissue whose breast cancer nearly went undetected, she worked tirelessly for transparency. Read up on Dr. Nancy Cappello here, who we lost to Metastatic Breast Cancer this week.
We are now on YouTube! Thanks, Joe for your hard work with the video production. If you would like to support the podcast, please rate, comment and share!

Four Years After the Diagnosis: A Reflection | Episode 28/29
Saturday Dec 01, 2018
Saturday Dec 01, 2018
Universe, what’s good?! Today’s episode took two attempts to record, as I just hit my fourth Cancerversary. Why did I fail the first time? Well, you'll have to check out the footage! While I hoped to release this episode on 11/11, I re-recorded on 11/18. Thank you for your patience and understanding listener, as November is a tough month!
It's also a very special episode that features one of my first-ever clients who has served our country in the Air Force. Thank you, Sergeant Carter! You can find him on ReverbNation and Facebook.
While I still have a long way to go in my journey of healing, I've recognized that I'm no longer the person I was pre-diagnosis. Each day brings a new set of challenges which have caused many ups and downs. Physically, mentally, and emotionally I am working on embracing the "new normals" in my life. It's great to be alive, and I've received a second chance to heal and make a difference.
Everyone has a different experience with breast cancer, and I hope that by the end of the episode, you feel a sense of peace if you are a fellow survivor. It is a blessing to have no evidence of the disease, but the road towards getting there has been both hellish and beautiful.
Don’t forget to rate, comment and share! I'd love to hear how your breast cancer diagnosis impacted you.

Universe, what’s good?! Today’s guest is the beautiful Marki de Sade, a Burlesque Queen and breast cancer survivor. Located in the Columbus, Ohio area, Marki has been using burlesque as a form of expression while flipping illness on its head.
Marki shares her story, which has been nothing short of extraordinary. After receiving a BRCA2 diagnosis, she opted for a preventative mastectomy and was soon faced with a much more serious diagnosis. This episode is a great listen, as she shares tips for enjoying your body after a diagnosis!

Wednesday Oct 31, 2018
Universe, what’s good?! We have a double feature in this episode. Today’s guests are the amazing Lori Knous and the wonderful Heidi Nafziger. Lori recently went to Washington DC as a Special Correspondent for The CanSurvivor Network. Heidi is the Senior Community Development Manager for the American Cancer Society.
As an early stager who developed stage four within years, Lori is continuously looking for answers and crusades for all metastatic breast cancer thrivers. Tune in to listen to her experience, and how it affected her.
Next is the super-informative interview with Heidi. Established in 1913, the American Cancer Society hopes to eradicate cancer through various initiatives and programs.
Heidi shares with us what the American Cancer Society offers, the impact the organization has made in the breast cancer space, and how the organization protects us from exposure to harmful elements through advocacy and action. We also discuss Heidi's journey since joining ACS. If you have ever wondered how such a large organization makes a local impact, this is your episode.
